Matthew’s opening chapter establishes the messianic credentials of Jesus Christ (the "Anointed Savior") by tracing His legal lineage through Abraham and David to prove His right to the throne. By intentionally abbreviating the genealogy into three groups of fourteen generations, Matthew highlights divine grace through the inclusion of five women with "stigmatized" or Gentile backgrounds and bypasses the curse on Jeconiah via the Virgin Birth.
